Ngee Ann Young Artist of the Year 2025:Fiona Koh Li Ping

Biography of Ngee Ann Young Artist of the Year 2025: Fiona Koh Li Ping

Fiona Koh (b. 1994, Singapore) is a visual artist whose practice explores memory, value, and vanishing culture through still life painting. She is best known for her meticulous depictions of everyday local objects painted on Chinese-language newspapers, a medium once integral to daily life but now largely obsolete. Through this act of reclaiming what is discarded or overlooked, Fiona transforms the ordinary into quiet meditations on change, continuity, and cultural memory.

Her works often reflect how Singaporeans consume, celebrate, and forget, tracing the emotional residues of the familiar and the ephemeral. Each painting is both a personal remembrance and a documentation of shifting traditions, capturing the delicate intersections between the personal and the collective.

Koh’s practice has been showcased widely in community, heritage, and contemporary art spaces. Her works have also been collected by The Ngee Ann Kongsi, Abacus Capital, and other major institutions, underscoring her growing prominence in Singapore’s contemporary art scene.

In 2018, Koh received the Harper’s Bazaar Art Prize, recognising her innovative approach to material and meaning. Her continuing practice bridges the personal and the historical, inviting audiences to rediscover beauty and significance in the overlooked and impermanent.
