NAPE Invited Artist-Foo Tee Jun

Foo Tee Jun

Mr Foo Tee Jun served as the resident photographer at the Ministry of the Environment for over two decades, during which he documented numerous sites of environmental concern across Singapore. Following his retirement, he continued to devote himself to nature photography — a passion he first cultivated in 1962 when he conducted his first introductory course. In recognition of his lifelong dedication to the photographic arts, he was awarded the Cultural Medallion in 1989.

Mr Foo believes that a nature photographer must first cultivate a deep appreciation for the natural world. Before capturing a single image, one must engage in extensive research and experimentation in order to truly reflect the subject’s essence. Through his photographs, Mr Foo seeks to inspire awareness of environmental and conservation issues.

Given Singapore’s limited natural biodiversity, public interest in nature conservation remains relatively low. Through his work, Mr Foo aspires to spark a greater consciousness of environmental challenges and to encourage a stronger sense of responsibility towards nature among Singaporeans.
