Biography of Ngee Ann Young Promising Artist of the Year 2024: Chloe Teo Liwen
Chloe Teo Liwen was born in Singapore in 1993 with ancestral roots in the Chao’an district of Guangdong, China. From a young age, Chloe’s passion for art was evident, leading her to pursue formal education at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA). She graduated in 2014 and majored in Fine Arts, specialising in Printmaking.
During her time at NAFA, Chloe explored the intricacies of printmaking, and conveyed emotions and narratives through this artistic process. Chloe uses a combination of Eastern and Western elements, and her works often reflect on the exploration of identity and memory through the medium of print. Chloe’s artistic journey has been deeply influenced by her exploration of memories and childhood-fragments of the past that hold significant meaning.
After completing her studies, Chloe transitioned into the education sector, where she gained valuable experience working in a school setting. This role allowed her to work closely with students, fostering their artistic talents and supporting art education in a dynamic and hands-on environment. Her experience in the classroom deepened her commitment to teaching, inspiring her to pursue a career that combines her love for art with her dedication to nurture the next generation.
Currently, Chloe is furthering her education at Nanyang Technological University / National Institute of Education (NTU/NIE) where she is training to become an art teacher. This role enables her to integrate her artistic skills with her educational aspiration, creating a holistic and engaging learning experience for young students. Chloe is enthusiastic about the opportunities ahead and is committed to continuing her growth as both an artist and educator, striving to inspire and guide her students in their artistic journey.
