Wong Beow Leng loves travelling and craves to capture images of stunning scenes of the countries and places that she visits. Her love for photography prompted her to join the Singapore Colour Photographic Society (SCPS) in 1987, and enrolled for a photography course so that she could take better pictures. The course taught her different aspects of photography, both in colour and in black-and-white images. She also had the opportunity to develop films and make enlargement of prints on her own. Driven by her interest, Ms Wong continued to improve her photographic skills by attending talks and lectures conducted by SCPS. Encouraged by her peers, Ms Wong took part in various competitions, winning awards. Her works were also selected to be showcased in prominent exhibitions. Through the competitions and exhibitions, she was able to learn more techniques from other fellow photographers. The experience also motivated her to work towards bringing her creativity and technical skills to a higher level. By 2009, Ms Wong’s works had won numerous recognitions in international competitions. But, more importantly, she realised that the international trend in photography was fast moving towards digital imaging. She then decided to switch course, and started retraining and adapting herself to the digital challenge. She managed to embrace digital technology successfully and has continued to stay relevant in international competitions until today. Apart from winning awards, Ms Wong has also garnered a number of photographic titles. She was admitted to the Associateship of The Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain (ARPS) in 1990, and the Excellence Distinction of International Federation of Photographic Art (EFIAP) in 2001. She achieved The Photographic Society of America’s Master Distinction (MPSA) in 2016, and the Society’s Galaxy 7 Award in Project Colour Images in 2015. In 1997, she was one of the eight women photographers in Singapore who were featured in “Women in Photography” exhibition and, in 2017, she was one of Singapore’s representatives for the Singapore-Malaysia Photographic Art Exhibition. Ms Wong is versatile in different branches of photography, such as Nature, portraiture and still life. Her passion for travel photography has taken her to places that reflect the customs, cultures, and religious traditions of a country.
